Description
David Doherty, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacements. He also performs partial and total joint arthroplasty. Doherty offers patients customized treatment plans utilizing anterior and posterior approaches to the hip, muscle-sparing approaches to the knee, and the most advanced technology, including robotic joint replacement surgery. His goal is to enhance patient experience and optimize outcomes. Doherty is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He graduated from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Society. He then completed a residency in orthopedic surgery. During that time, he was selected to represent the program at the American Orthopedic Association Emerging Leaders Program and served as administrative chief resident. He completed fellowship training in adult reconstruction at Duke University School of Medicine in North Carolina. Doherty has been actively participating in and publishing research since he was a premedical student in college. His research has been published in scientific textbooks and national peer-reviewed journals and presented at national meetings. He’s a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He also travels on medical outreach trips to developing nations and most recently performed surgery in Baghdad, Iraq, and San Salvador, El Salvador. Additionally, he spent elective time during his residency traveling to Sydney, Australia, to complete a short fellowship and observe the techniques of osseointegration surgery. Outside of work, Doherty enjoys spending time with his wife and their three children and visiting the city’s many parks, museums, and restaurants.
